As digital media continues to transform the discussion of art worldwide, the ability to write about contemporary art with clarity and originality has never been so important. This course provides a guide to writing for a variety of channels, from a press release to a review, from a web blog to catalogue essay.

 

You will learn:

 

• About the role and aims of the art writer

• How to shape your style accordingly

• How to maintain clear and imaginative writing

• How to pitch and get published

 

Led by Dr Gilda Williams, author of Writing About Art Dr Gilda Williams is a London correspondent for Artforum magazine and a member of the International Association of Art Critics. Williams’ writings on contemporary art have appeared in Artforum, Parkett, Tate etc., Art Monthly, Art in America and Time Out magazines, and on film in Sight and Sound magazine. She is Editor of Gothic (MIT Press / Whitechapel Gallery, 2007) and her most recent book is How to Write About Contemporary Art (Thames & Hudson, 2014)
