Whitechapel Open Tours

 

Whitechapel Open Tours are free workshops for groups, offering those with little experience of visiting a gallery an interactive introduction to art. The tours are led this season by artist Daniel Wallis and include activities which are shaped around the interests and needs of your group.

 

Tours from 12th October to 30th December will focus on work by Mel Bochner. The latest paintings of American artist Mel Bochner (b. 1940) use a thesaurus to generate word chains that are both funny and bursting with colour. Bochner shares with other artists who emerged in the 1960s an interest in using rationalising systems - numbers, measurements, definitions - to explore the irrational and provisional nature of being.

We hope to meet a broad range of people including tenant’s groups, charities, youth clubs, ESOL groups and groups with disabilities. Due to high demand we can accommodate one visit per organisation for this exhibition.
