Folklife Festival 본문
Dear , ...
Sustainable agriculture, locally grown produce, and simple preparation of food have never been more popular. Or have they?
In fact, Mexico has been practicing these concepts for hundreds of years, and they’re on display throughout the Folklife Festival that is taking place on the Mall in Washington this week. From demonstrations of tequila and mezcal production to traditional farming and fishing techniques to beekeeping and candymaking – the sights, smells, and tastes are fascinating (and delicious!). I'd like to share this amazing flavor with you, just a little, if I can. Click here to join me at the Folklife Festival from wherever you are!
I am always delighted by what I encounter each day at the Smithsonian, but there is certainly something quite stunning about the transformation of our National Mall into the vibrant celebration that is created by artisans, dancers, musicians, and more who are practicing their crafts before your eyes. Take a look:
Here at the Smithsonian, we constantly strive to find new ways to educate and enlighten. And for me, that's the most exciting part of the México program at Folklife. There's nothing quite like experiencing a community's art and culture directly – whether it's the ceremonial, social and satirical dances, the traditional and rock music, food, crafts, or healing traditions.
Everywhere you turn at Folklife, there's something different to learn and enjoy, a new window into the knowledge and creativity that have sustained diverse communities and helped to shape contemporary cultures around the world. That's why I hope you'll be able to join us on the Mall July 1 through 5, but even if you can't attend this year's Festival, there are plenty of ways you can share the flavors of Folklife. Click here to learn more, and we hope to see you at Folklife – in person or online!
Warm Regards,
