When defining art and ability we can say that ‘ability is a job done with passion, it’s a point reached after an action.’ It’s the engulfing of an important job with tremendous passion. After this it will go on developing itself indefinitely.

 

Painting is not some hobby but a long-term project needing a lot of discipline and passion. I truly believe that Sun-Ae ANN is a person who has the ability to accomplish this. Though she did her undergraduate studies in other fields, from the first day on in her Master’s studies in Art she has excelled through her discipline, persistency, and inquisitive, searching, solicitous and pursuing commitment.

 

Nature has been a rich resource for artists in all periods of history. Artists have incorporated nature into themselves and according to their different tastes and desires have brought about different interpretations. In this context Anatolia is a mysterious land that can present unlimited choice of historical, natural and social data to the artists. Sun-Ae ANN after being bewitched by the mystical and mysterious nature of the Cappadocia region and the historical and natural beauty of the Aegean region started to ask herself again sincerely about the meaning of life.

 

Anatolia is a synonym for mystery…. Wherever you go there is a sense of awe and you feel spellbound. This Anatolia is able to meet the needs of the most complex of Mother Nature’s creations – the human being. Their country, nationality, race, religion, age are not important one only needs to be human to recognize the value of this area. Feeling, emotion, instinct, love, and curiosity – when one says Nature, the miracles of nature that surround and envelope mankind with its ever-changing four seasons – Anatolia comes to mind. Mountains, valleys, lakes, seas, and waterfalls are all shining jewels of the treasure chest of Anatolia.

 

When one says ‘History’ and thinks of the 10 thousand year treasure chest of civilization – even if we haven’t been able to convince the world Anatolia is still and will remain the birth place of civilization. Every step is a piece of history. When we say ‘Culture’ the Hittites, the Romans, Hellenistic civilization, the Orthodox Christians, the Seljuk, the Ottomans, the chain of customs and traditions that makes up today’s modern Turkey.

Sun-Ae ANN has been finding ways to be nourished with the cultural, historical and natural heritage of Anatolia ever since she arrived in Turkey – she is one who can be said to have joined her heart with the treasures of Anatolia. To paint the pictures of a historical and naturally beautiful area is to put your artistic impressions into action, to envelop and busy oneself with culture. To make yourself one in identification with a subject especially if it is foreign to you will often end in superficiality.

 

These paintings of Cappadocia and the Aegean regions are the end product of a visual transposition of a multi-cultural identification. A person from a foreign country has their home country’s colours, flavours and sights stacked away like bales in a barn. Sun-Ae ANN coming from South Korea in the Far East has collected impressions of colours, styles and perspectives that can be transposed to documents that pictorially express those stacks and hoards of far-eastern flavour. It is only natural that Sun-Ae ANN approaches her work with all of her senses and collected cultural experience and that brings to life an artistic journey with traces of her language, and coloured with her personality and mode, form and shape analysis.

 

With this treasure chest of Art Sun-Ae ANN has made great progression. And her passion for Turkey has provided her with the riches of a far wider field of artistic expression.
